Dear BayTech Community:

We hope this message finds you all well as we each learn to adapt with the major changes facing our community. We have been very happy to see so many students working hard over the last two weeks, and we have enjoyed hearing from families over phone and email, though of course these interactions can’t replace the in-person time we all miss.

As the coronavirus pandemic develops, schools around the world are adapting and updating our plans for reopening. BayTech is working closely with OUSD and other local agencies for guidance on when we can safely reopen our schools. BayTech will follow OUSD and the Alameda County Office of Education’s plan for school closure.

We plan to reopen on May 4th pending permission from OUSD and the Alameda County Office of Education.

As our closure extends beyond two weeks, please follow our messages closely. We will be sending out more information soon regarding collecting completed work packets, picking up new packets, and accessing new online classes. While we are very pleased with the work our students have done in the last two weeks, we need to make changes that fit better for a longer closure period. Please read the bullet points below for important information.

If you need to borrow your chromebook, we will have two more distribution times on campus:

  • Thursday 4/2 9am-11am

  • Friday 4/3 9am-11am

  • Middle School NEW packets will be available online starting Friday at noon

  • Middle and High School, look for information soon regarding turning in your completed packets.

Online Work:

  • High school students, we are making changes to your online work. Look for more information soon regarding your grades and new work.

  • All students should check Google Classroom daily for other assigned work from your teachers.

Office Hours:

  • All teachers will be available for at least 30 minutes every weekday for virtual “office hours,” starting 4/6. Look for info soon with each teacher’s schedule and how to reach them.

  • Teachers will be answering emails during the week.

i-Ready and NoRedInk:

  • SO many of you have been doing a great job with these programs. Keep up the hard work.

  • Middle school students are required to do at least 20 minutes of i-Ready Math and 20 minutes of i-Ready Reading every weekday.

  • High school students are required to do 40 minutes of NoRedInk each day.

Online credit recovery, college classes, and SAT prep:

  • Continue with your free online college classes. Contact Mr. Hughes with questions or to register for a new course:

  • Prepare for the SAT (10th and 11th grade) using UWorld. Contact Mr. Hughes with questions or to register for a new course:

  • For those enrolled in Credit Recovery classes, use this free time to catch up on your classes. If your child finishes a class and needs another, have them contact Mr. Hughes at

Other notes:

  • If someone in your family tests positive for COVID-19, please contact Mr. Wallace at Or leave a text or voicemail at (510) 926-7935.

  • Please remember that the work packets and online work are REPLACING 25 hours of class time per week and are therefore fairly long and very important. You are still a student during the closure! We appreciate families who can help support students with this, as independent study is often challenging for students who are not accustomed to it.

THANK YOU for your hard work, patience, and positive attitudes during these difficult times. Stay safe and stay healthy!

Best Regards,
